Teach Me Courses put fun into learning a new skill, art or craft
Teach Me Courses is the brainchild of local artists Yolanda and John Houston who know that many people are interested in arts and crafts and want to learn or develop new skills in a friendly, rather than academic, environment.
Teach Me courses aim to help participants express the creativity they already possess – sometimes without them even realising it! The courses fulfil a number of things – teaching new skills (or helping people refine the skills they have); they enable participants to create something to be proud of, and they help them learn a little about the art or craft they’re doing.
Only top quality materials and equipment are used, so participants can rest assured that they’ll be working with the best. Everybody gets something to take home with them and Teach Me’s tutors know everyone will be proud to show off what they have created.
Courses are held at Teach Me’s studio at 3 Cockreed Lane in New Romney and apart from expert tuition, they include all materials, tools and safety equipment. Most courses are a full day, although a series of daytime and evening courses in stained glass (3 classes), mosaics and painting and drawing are also proving very popular.
The groups are usually made up of four people, but rarely more than six people (depending on the course content) – so that lots of one to one assistance can be provided and equipment can be easily accessed. More daytime and evening courses in various art and craft forms are planned.
Teach Me’s overarching aim is to ensure that everyone attending has a fun and memorable time, while taking something lovely home with them. Hopefully, they also learn some new skills with which to start a new hobby. One former student on a silver clay course now makes her own range of silver jewellery for sale.
Course participants never go hungry at Teach Me’s studio. Not only are hot and cold drinks, biscuits and cakes provided at regular intervals throughout the day, but there is also a splendid lunch that most guests comment upon. This gives groups time to get to know each other and chat about what they’re doing on their day.
The daytime and evening courses are great value at just £20.00 for a two hour session with all tools, materials and protective clothing provided. The price is on a pay as you go basis, so if a participant cannot make a week, they don’t have to pay. Full day workshops cost a very reasonable between £55.00 and £85.00, including tools, materials, refreshments, lunch and a booklet to take away to remind them of what they learned in the studio.
A bonus is that once someone has completed a workshop or course, the tutors invite them to contact them if they need help, advice or assistance with their own projects.
Payments can be made in advance online or on the day for daytime and evening courses.
